LLMs should support human flourishing.
By default, technology products optimize for engagement: They give you short-term dopamine hits, and want you to stay longer and keep coming back. Large language models (LLMs) are an incredibly powerful technology that are poised to be even more addicting than what we already have. We need to incentivize LLM applications to support our long-term flourishing instead.
We’re creating a transparent evaluation system grading how much LLM applications support flourishing. We want consumers to be able to make informed choices about which apps they use, and for policy-makers to orient around LLM apps that support our long-term growth.

We’re exploring:
Policy – How do we regulate LLM apps based on how much they support flourishing?
Business – Can we incentivize better business models than the engagement model?
Technical research – Validating LLM-evaluated metrics for flourishing
